Petite sizes available to XLP 18P. I'm really struggling with the price tag here, but this is the best shoe I could find to represent what I'm looking for, and it also is probably a bit too "nice" to match the rest of my somewhat lacking wardrobe.

Those who are interviewing for a job in business, banking and wealth management, politics, academia, engineering, or health sectors should dress business formal unless otherwise instructed. If no clothing type is specified, and the company you're interviewing for is outside the sectors listed above, stick with business casual. Tucked-in or untucked can both go, depending on the shirt. Unusual patterns are acceptable, as long as they are not wild. The standard, however, is a monotone shirt.
Use a collar for a more formal look, and collarless shirts for a less formal look. Try footwear such as leather shoes, flat trouser shoes, high heels; no open toed shoes. Avoid flip flops, sandals and sneakers. Heels are okay, so long as they aren't too conspicuous. Complete the business casual look. Remember dress socks or pantyhose with skirts or dresses and tastefully accessorize with light jewelry and a simple purse. Ask yourself the following set of questions if you're still not sure whether your outfit is acceptable.

Avoid pants in loud colors such as red, yellow, and purple. Camouflage is not allowed, neither are white pants — they feel a little too informal for even business casual.
Stick with black, brown, grey, khaki, dark blue and dark green pants. Consider pairing your shirt with a sweater or sweater vest. V-neck sweaters work best if wearing a a collar. Turtlenecks can be worn in combination with a blazer for a sleek look and a little bit of novelty. If you want to wear a suit coat and still look business casual, dress it down with khakis instead of suit pants.
Stick to black, brown, or grey shoes. Oxfords, lace-ups, and loafers are all standards. Study the list of don'ts. Avoid the following items, which, fortunately or unfortunately, don't fall under the category of business casual: Sneakers, sandals, flip-flops or other open-toed shoes.

I believe that if your shirt does not have a collar, it is not appropriate for the workplace. This includes t-shirts, henleys, sweatshirts, tank tops, etc.
Button Ups 1 2 3. This is going to be your go-to piece for business casual attire. With or without a tie, a button up shirt is always a good choice.
Keep in mind that there are shirts made for tucking into your pants so they stay in when you sit down, and there are shirts made for leaving untucked. You should be wearing the former at work. Start with some shirts in white or light blue, as these are very versatile and will work with most of your wardrobe.
Move on to more bold colors and prints later on. Polos are generally acceptable in the workplace; however I like to think that button-ups are a better choice. Slacks 1 2 3. In fact using the pants from your suit is a great way to get some business casual wear out of a piece of formal attire. Slacks will generally be darker in color grey, navy or black and have muted patterns, if any. However they will most likely be the most versatile, and most used, pair of pants in your business casual wardrobe.
Jeans 1 2 3. You will have to decide whether your office is ok with jeans, either from a written dress code or from what others are wearing. Jeans you wear to the office need to be dark wash, with no visible holes or distressing.
From a distance, someone might have a hard time telling if they are jeans at all, or just dark slacks. A blazer is the quickest way for you to upgrade your look at the office.
Keep the jacket fairly unstructured, the shoulders should not make a sharp corner. It should be shorter than most suit jackets. Lastly, the armholes should be high. Navy 1 2 3. The navy blazer is a staple of any office wardrobe. Tweed 1 2 3. Perfect for the colder months, a tweed sportscoat has a nice rough, textured look. The best part is that you can mix in some very bold patterns and colors, whether it be your shirt, tie or pocket square and the jacket keeps it all from speaking too loudly.
A cotton blazer is essential for summer, especially if you live in a warmer climate. I like to go for lighter colors in my cotton blazers and tan is a perfect choice. When the temperatures start to drop, layering up with a sweater is a great way to upgrade your style and give off a more refined look. V-Neck Pullover 1 2. Some people say merino or cashmere are the only options, but I have a few cotton versions that suit me just fine. Keep the colors dark and muted when you start out, I would say get a navy and gray version first.
I tend to disagree. I like to think of my cardigan as a sweater that is a little more fun than the pullover. Keep the bottom button undone. The good news is that you can go with some less formal ties in a business casual workplace: I hesitate to even break into this section but I felt it should be mentioned. All these guides popping up everywhere have been really informative and helpful. At the very least, they're something to think about. Try to be a little more specific. Perhaps explain why someone would choose dark over brass, or soft shoulder over padded shoulder. A good guide does more than list opinion. Feel free to summarize useful information from the other guides, but try to avoid too much overlap. Try to explain the spectrum of business casual. What's on the low end, what's on the high end, when is each appropriate?
Overall this is a decent guide but it lacks some umph. Ask yourself "If I was a young professional starting with nothing but a brief concept of business casual, what information is important to me? This guide should thoroughly answer both of those questions.
Add a bit more and it will probably be worth the add. Thanks for the feedback, I'll take some time and revise some things so that personal opinion is left out and brings some more thorough explanation to it. I feel that the two spectrums of people, one who knows nothing about business casual and one who is well versed, would have completely different needs from a guide.
It seems to me that MFA's demographic would most likely represent the inexperienced end of that spectrum, do you think this would be better written as a guide for that group? The basic wardrobe is a good reminder, even for those that have been dressing for a while.
